Drop off is available from December 26, 2023, through January 15, 2024. Trees should be placed in the lower lot, on the life side of the dumpster
Lights, ornaments, decorations, and wreaths MUST be removed prior to drop off
EDWARDSVILLE TOWNSHIP CONTINUES WITH HOMEFIELD ENERGY
Edwardsville, Illinois – Edwardsville Township is pleased to announce a renewed municipal aggregation program with Homefield Energy to give Township residents a choice in their energy provider and cost. Edwardsville Township has worked with Homefield Energy for a number of years, most recently from 2021 to 2023. The new rate takes effect December 1.
In 2013, Township voters passed a referendum authorizing Edwardsville Township to seek competitive electricity rates for eligible residential and small commercial retail customers by establishing an “opt-out” electric aggregation program. The Township has used energy consultants for over a decade to negotiate an alternate to Ameren dynamic rates. Section 16-103 of the Public Utilities Act allows residents the ability to compare prices and shop for the lowest price for the electric supply portion of their service.
“We are happy to once again provide our Township residents an option on their electricity provider,” said Kevin Hall, Edwardsville Township Supervisor.
On Edwardsville Township’s behalf, Good Energy has negotiated a rate with Homefield Energy of 9.24 cents per kWh which includes the .00387 capacity charge effective January 1, 2024. This combined rate is good until July 2024. From August 2024 to July 2025 the base rate is still 8.857 cents per KwH but the capacity rate is to be determined. For August 2025 to December 2025 the base rate continues, but the capacity charge is to be determined. Electricity customers can compare offers and rates at www.plugin.illinois.gov. For example, Ameren’s rate at that site is 7.78 per kWh until October 2023. This is higher than the current Homefield rate which is 4.94 cents per kWh.
Edwardsville Township utility customers were sent information on the program and how to opt-out in October 2023. Customers who wish to opt-out of this program may do so by calling 866-694-1262.
The Township is moving so building renovation can start
Edwardsville Township Relocating to 900 Hillsboro (Madison County Farm Bureau Building) during Township Hall Renovation
Edwardsville Township will be moving to the Madison County Farm Bureau building located at 900 Hillsboro Avenue Suite 4 in Edwardsville at the end of November. The Township Supervisor’s office will be open for business the entire time, whereas the Township Assessor’s office will be closed November 21st-23rd. The current office at 300 West Park Street will be open until the end of the day on November 23rd. Then after Thanksgiving, starting Monday, November 28th, operations will begin at 900 Hillsboro Avenue.
“We hope to provide a seamless transition for the community as we move into the temporary office space at the Farm Bureau building,” said Supervisor Kevin Hall.
To travel from 300 West Park Street to 900 Hillsboro, head a block north to Vandalia St. and then go east. When you reach Hillsboro, turn left (north) and the building will be two blocks down on the right.
There will be partial bus service using the Madison County Transit Bus #22 that runs down St. Louis Street, stops at Vandalia Street and Shell Lane, then there would be a 5 minute walk to 900 Hillsboro.
The Township hopes to start renovations to Township Hall at 300 West Park Street on December 1, 2022.
Township Appoints New Trustee
By unanimous vote Wednesday (1-25-23), the Edwardsville Township Board appointed Glen Carbon resident Sitsofe Luh Nutsukpui to fill a vacant trustee position. The vacancy was created with the resignation of board member Charles “Skip” Schmidt in December.
Ms. Nutskupui currently works at Madison County Community Development with assistance programs like LIHEAP & ERAP, programs that the Township has processed for years. In terms of community service she is currently on Glen Carbon Events Committee, Edwardsville School District’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee, she is a member of the Edwardsville NAACP, has been involved in several school PTOs, among many others.
“Sitso Luh Nutsukpui stood out from the beginning with her experienced background and passion for our community. She has served on committees for the Village of Glen Carbon and the Edwardsville School District and volunteered with many local organizations,” said Township Supervisor Kevin Hall. “I feel she will be a great addition with a fresh perspective to bring to the Township Board.”
