Matthew R. Chapman, a resident of Glen Carbon, was elected to serve his first term as a member of the Edwardsville Township Board of Trustees in April 2017. In April 2021, Chapman won re-election for a second term through 2025. In his own words, Mr. Chapman says he ran for Township Trustee, “as a way to get more involved in my community and to continue the good stewardship of our parks, roads, and services.” During his first term, Mr. Chapman served on the facilities committee and helped secure funding for the renovation and expansion of the Township building, which will allow the Township to better serve its constituents. Mr. Chapman has also volunteered at the Edwardsville Criterium, which the Township helps sponsor and provides free bike helmets to kids, and the Touch a Truck event held at the park.
Mr. Chapman served in the Air National Guard 183rd Tactical Fighter Group – E4 from 1991 to 1997. Following his military service, he attended Saint Louis University School of Law where he obtained his Juris Doctorate and began work as an attorney. Mr. Chapman is currently a partner at the law firm of Becker, Schroader & Chapman, P.C. where he specializes in personal injury and workers’ compensation cases.
Mr. Chapman is married to Kimberly Chapman and is the father of two daughters, Laine, nineteen (19), Sophia sixteen (16). He is also step-father to Connor Eilerts, eighteen (18). In his spare time, Mr. Chapman enjoys traveling, playing golf, and paddle boarding.
