A Junior Service Club of Edwardsville/Glen Carbon service project, the Boundless Playground was built on the weekend of April 19, 2013, with the help of the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon community. This was a signature project of the Junior Service Club, and funds were raised for three (3) years prior to completion. Nationally, an estimated six (6) million children, more than one (1) in ten (10), have a disability that makes it difficult or impossible to play on a traditional playground. Boundless Playgrounds™ builds inclusive playgrounds that allow children with and without disabilities to play together in an accessible and nurturing play environment. Additionally, Boundless Playgrounds™ also helps millions of parents, grandparents, and caregivers with a disability or limited mobility the opportunity to play with their loved ones.
Rotary Club of Edwardsville “Airplane Park” Playground
The Edwardsville Rotary Club spearheaded the original playground build in 1991. After significant use and two (2) decades of exposure to the elements, the playground was removed, making way for a new community-wide initiative to design, fund and construct a new and improved playground. The playground was dedicated on October 13, 2013.
